Google Reviews Disappeared or Not Showing on Your Business Profile
Your Google reviews disappeared or are not showing — your review count dropped, specific reviews vanished, or customers say they left a review that never appeared on your Google Business Profile.
Common signs of this issue
- Your Google reviews disappeared — the review count on your Business Profile dropped overnight, sometimes by several at once.
- A customer says they left a review, but it never appeared or vanished after a day or two.
- Reviews show when you are signed in to your own account but not when others look.
- All reviews are missing or hidden, sometimes with a notice about unusual activity or restrictions on the profile.
- Reviews disappeared shortly after you changed the business name, address, category, or merged or removed a duplicate listing.
- Your profile shows as suspended, or reviews are temporarily paused.
Safe checks you can do yourself
None of these require sharing passwords with anyone.
- Look at your profile the way a customer would: search your business name in Google while signed out, or in a private window, and on Google Maps on a phone. Reviews sometimes appear for the reviewer or the owner before they are visible to the public.
- Sign in to your Business Profile (search your business name while signed in, or go through Google Business Profile Manager) and check for notices at the top — suspension, verification requests, or a message that reviews are temporarily limited. Google changes where these appear, so look for any banner or alert.
- Ask any customer whose review is missing whether they can still see it in their own Google Maps contributions. If they can see it but the public cannot, it was most likely filtered. If it is gone from their account too, it may have been removed or deleted by them.
- Think back over the timing. Did you recently change the business name, address, phone, or category, move location, re-verify, or remove or merge a duplicate listing? Big profile changes can trigger a review and temporarily affect what is shown.
- Check for duplicate listings by searching Maps for your name, phone number, and old addresses. Reviews may be sitting on a second listing, or have been lost or moved when duplicates were merged.
- Be honest about how the missing reviews came in. Reviews from the same Wi-Fi network (for example, customers asked to review on a tablet in your shop), a sudden burst of reviews, reviews offered in exchange for discounts, or reviews from staff and family are the kind Google's systems commonly filter.
- For a review you believe was removed in error, use Google's review management or appeal tool for Business Profile owners, which you can find from Google's Business Profile help pages. You can see reported reviews there and appeal decisions. Availability and steps change, so follow Google's current instructions.
- For fake or abusive reviews you want gone, use the report review option on the review itself or the owner review management tool. Keep a simple note of what you reported and when.
What this usually means
Most disappearing reviews are the result of Google's automated spam and policy filters, not a technical fault on your side. Google continuously checks reviews for signs they are fake, incentivised, from people with a conflict of interest, or posted in unusual patterns. When its systems change or re-check old reviews, genuine reviews sometimes get caught too. Reviews that are filtered on arrival may be visible to the person who wrote them but to nobody else. There is rarely any notice, which is why it feels random.
Profile changes are the second big cause. Editing core details such as name, address, or category, moving location, or having your profile suspended can hide reviews for a period, and merging or removing duplicate listings can move or drop reviews that were attached to the wrong one. A suspended profile will usually hide the whole listing — see business not showing on Google Maps for that situation. Sometimes a reviewer simply deletes their own review or their Google account, and their reviews go with it.
Never try to replace lost reviews by buying them, swapping them for discounts, or having friends post them. Google may remove reviews and restrict or suspend profiles for this, and in the United States the FTC's rule on fake reviews and testimonials, finalised in 2024, allows penalties for buying or selling fake reviews. The rules differ by country, so check what applies to you. The durable fix is a steady flow of honest reviews from real customers — ask everyone, make it easy with your review link, and reply to reviews you get. Keeping your business information up to date helps too.
What not to do
- Don't buy reviews, trade discounts or gifts for reviews, or ask only happy customers to review in a way that filters out unhappy ones.
- Don't have staff, friends, or family post reviews, or have customers post them from a tablet or Wi-Fi in your business.
- Don't create a new listing to start fresh. Duplicate listings can get your business suspended.
- Don't make repeated major changes to your business name or address hoping to trigger a reset.
- Don't pay a service that promises it can restore or remove Google reviews through special contacts. No one outside Google can guarantee that.
- Don't respond to a negative review with personal details about the customer or angry accusations.
When to get help
If your whole profile has been suspended, if a large share of your reviews vanished at once, or if appeals keep coming back rejected, it is worth talking to someone experienced before you make more changes. Well-meaning fixes — editing details, creating a new listing, pushing lots of new reviews quickly — often make things worse. An expert will check for duplicates, profile history, and policy issues, prepare a clean appeal with the right evidence, and help you set up a review process that stays within the rules.

Frequently asked questions
Why did my Google reviews disappear?
Most often Google's spam filters removed or hid them because they looked fake, incentivised, or were posted in an unusual pattern. Profile changes, suspensions, duplicate listing merges, and reviewers deleting their own reviews are other common causes.
Why is a customer's Google review not showing?
It may have been filtered as it was posted. Filtered reviews are often visible to the reviewer but not to anyone else. It can also take a little time to appear, or the customer may have posted it to the wrong listing.
Can I get deleted Google reviews back?
Sometimes. If you believe a review was removed by mistake, you can appeal through Google's review management tools for Business Profile owners. There is no guarantee, and reviews the reviewer deleted cannot be restored by you.
Will editing my Google Business Profile remove reviews?
Minor edits usually do not. Changes to your name, address, or category, moving location, or merging duplicate listings can trigger a review of the profile and sometimes affect which reviews are shown.
Is it illegal to buy Google reviews?
It breaks Google's policies everywhere, and in the United States the FTC's 2024 rule on fake reviews allows penalties for buying or selling fake reviews. Laws vary by country, so check the rules that apply to you.
How do I report fake Google reviews?
Use the report option on the review itself or the review management tool for Business Profile owners. Report only reviews that genuinely break Google's policies — a review being negative is not enough.
Do missing Google reviews hurt my ranking?
Reviews are one of the signals Google uses for local results, so losing many can matter. A steady flow of genuine new reviews is the most reliable way to recover.
