Wix Contact Form Not Working
Wix almost always captures the form submission — the messages are usually sitting in your Wix dashboard. What breaks is the email that was supposed to tell you about them.
Common signs of this issue
- You test your own form, it says thank you, and no email ever reaches you.
- A customer says they contacted you through the site and you never saw the message.
- Notification emails used to arrive and stopped, with no obvious change on your part.
- Notifications arrive at a personal or old address instead of your business inbox.
- The form itself misbehaves after you edited the site — a field is gone, or submitting shows an error.
- Submissions show in your Wix dashboard, but the automated email you set up never fires.
Safe checks you can do yourself
None of these require sharing passwords with anyone.
- Before anything else, check whether the messages were actually captured. In your Wix dashboard, look under Forms and Submissions (also surfaced in the Inbox and in Contacts). In most cases the messages are all there — it is only the email alert that failed.
- Submit a test through your own form from a personal email address, using a normal-looking sentence rather than one word, and note the time. Then check both the Wix dashboard and your inbox to see which half received it.
- Open the form's settings in the editor and check the email notification option: confirm it is switched on and look closely at which address it sends to. By default Wix often notifies the address on your Wix account — frequently a personal address from years ago — not your business email.
- Search the notification address's inbox, including spam and any Promotions tab, for "new submission" or your site's name. Wix notification emails come from Wix's servers, and plenty of mail filters file them away unread.
- If you recently edited the page, re-check the form in the editor. Deleting or renaming a connected field can quietly break the notification without breaking the form.
- If you set up an automation ("when someone submits this form, send an email"), open the Automations area and confirm it is active, points at the current form, and sends to the right address — an automation aimed at a deleted form fails silently.
- Check your plan's limits. On free and entry-level Wix plans some form features are capped — a busy form can hit a monthly limit and stop recording entries, which looks exactly like a broken form.
- Test the form on your phone as a visitor would. Some layout customizations hide the submit button or a required field on mobile, where most of your visitors are.
What this usually means
The reassuring news first: on Wix, a "broken" contact form very rarely loses the message. Submissions are stored in the Wix dashboard the moment a visitor hits send, independent of any email. So the usual situation is not my form doesn't work but my form works and nobody told me — the notification email is off, pointed at the wrong address, or being filed as spam.
The wrong-address version is the most common. Wix distinguishes between the email on your Wix account and the email your business actually reads, and notifications often default to the former. Owners who signed up years ago with a personal address end up with months of enquiries piling up in an inbox nobody checks.
When the form itself genuinely breaks, it is nearly always self-inflicted through editing: a connected field deleted, the form swapped out while an automation still references the old one, or a plan limit reached. These leave a trail — Wix flags disconnected pieces in the editor and dashboard — which is why the safe checks above all live inside your own Wix account rather than in any technical tool.
What not to do
- Don't delete and rebuild the form as a first move. The existing submissions and any automations are attached to it, and the notification problem will usually follow the new form anyway.
- Don't assume silence means no enquiries. Open the Submissions area first — many owners discover weeks of unread messages sitting there.
- Don't change the email address on your whole Wix account just to redirect form notifications. That address controls your login and billing; the form's notification setting is the right place.
- Don't set up a second automation on top of a possibly broken one — you can end up with duplicate or conflicting notifications and no idea which one fired.
- Don't leave a Wix notification sitting in your spam folder — mark it as not spam, so your inbox learns to keep delivering them.
- Don't consider it fixed until one real test submission shows up both in the dashboard and in the right inbox.
When to get help
Most Wix form problems end in your own dashboard within half an hour, because Wix keeps the submissions and shows you the settings. Where a pro starts to save you money is when the trail runs cold: submissions genuinely not appearing in the dashboard, an automation setup nobody remembers building, or notification emails that fail even after the address and toggle are confirmed correct — which can point to a problem on your business inbox's side rather than Wix's. Someone who works with Wix regularly can trace form-to-inbox in one short session, and tidying the notifications and automations properly once means every future enquiry arrives where you will actually see it.

Frequently asked questions
Where do Wix form submissions actually go?
They are stored in your Wix dashboard — look under Forms and Submissions, and they also appear in the Wix Inbox and in Contacts. The email notification is a separate extra layer; even when the email fails, the submissions are normally all there.
Why am I not getting emails when someone fills in my Wix form?
Usually one of three things: the notification setting is switched off, it is sending to the email on your Wix account rather than your business address, or the notifications are landing in spam. Check the form's notification settings first, then search the target inbox's spam folder.
Do Wix forms work on the free plan?
Yes, but with limits. Entry-level and free plans cap some form features, including how many submissions certain forms can take in a month. If a busy form suddenly stops accepting or recording entries, check whether you have hit a plan limit before assuming it is broken.
My Wix form broke after I edited my site. What happened?
Most likely a connected field was deleted or renamed, or the form was replaced while an automation still pointed at the old one. Open the form in the editor and check the Automations area — Wix usually flags disconnected pieces once you look.
Can I recover form messages I missed?
Almost always. Because Wix stores submissions in the dashboard regardless of email, past messages are waiting under Forms and Submissions. Work through them oldest-first — a late reply beats no reply.
How do I test whether my Wix form is fixed?
Submit the form yourself from a personal email address with a realistic message, then confirm it appears in the Wix dashboard and that the notification lands in your business inbox. Only when both halves succeed is the problem actually solved.
